Travelling; Nigerian roads and my rational fears

Image
Feeling : unmotivated Time: 8:04 a.m Hmmn today's gist is about Travelling majorly on Nigerian roads. I think what got me thinking about this is the fact that I'm going home tomorrow for a few days and I'm thinking about how the whole journey will go. Truth Is I hate Nigerian roads. Everybody does actually. As much as I'm the indoorsy type of person, I think a little part of me likes travelling, but for some reason, I'm scared of it. I'm not a pessimist, but I'm really scared of travelling cos I'm scared of accidents. I know, I know, I'm going too far,  but that's what you get when you have a crazy imaginative mind - you imagine the worst and you imagine the best.  Trust me, I'm even better,  God has helped me deal with my irrational fears to a large extent. There was a time me , my dad and brother were walking under a bridge and I was telling my dad to hurry, cos I didn't want the bridge to fall on us. I don't know what I

7 reasons why you should run away from double dating, and three reasons why people double date.

Feeling: Like a detective. Time: can't remember when I started. It will be wrong for me to go on without saying why I haven't been on here. As much as I'd love to say something fancy like, "oh I'm sorry, I was on a much needed vacation in Hawaii constantly swimming, ordering room service, and having the time of my life. " I can't say that cos it'd be a lie as I was quite sick last week and lazy too (I mean when I recovered), and somehow, there was no ginger AKA nothing to motivate me. Oh and I'm feeling like a detective cos I've been watching "The mentalist. " Anyhoos, today, I'll be talking about a concept I only got to really know about quite recently. Double dating. To be honest, I only saw this in movies, mostly Nigerian I guess. I think I remember one time when I was younger I checked the Internet for the meaning, and I saw something close to "it's when two couples go out on a date" I dunno if it's

The bins don't bite! Make use of them.

Feeling : Sad for no reason Time: 6:50p.m Hi guys, well, I'm not writing this post cos I'm bored or because my CDS (Community Development Service) is something related to environmental blah blah. I'm saying this because the situation we've found ourselves in is quite horrible. Is it because we are Nigerians, or Africans, I don't get why we have to litter everywhere we go. I mean, even educated people do this, TBH it makes no sense to me. When I was growing up, it's one thing I deliberately picked from my dad. One of the billion things I learnt from him. I don't think my siblings even throw things into bins all the time. I remembered one time my mom and I went out, I bought maize or something and when I was done,i held the cob, she told me I should throw it away, but there was no bin know sight. My mom being a clown, waited for me to hold it loosely and then shook it out of my hand😂😂. My mom though. Anyways, I asked a bunch of people why they th

Yorubas; greeting and respect. We do it for the culture!

Feeling: Lazy. Wanna be in bed all day Time : 6:44a.m Lol this post was scheduled for a day in May, but NYSC decided to scatter it. So, I'm just writing it. If you're Nigerian say "yo!" More specifically, if you're Yoruba say "ayyeee." This post is going to be about our culture and one very important aspect of it - Greetings and Respect . I hear that the Yoruba culture is probably the most respectful culture not only in Nigeria, but in the whole world. I wouldn't disagree with that if it's true. The proper way for a girl to greet elders is for her to go down on her knees and for the guys, they prostrate. Imagine during the trad wedding, going to greet the girl's parents and not fully prostrating!!!!  Just know you have forfeited the girl. Growing up, my parents weren't crazy crazy fans of going down fully on your knees to greet them in the morning, though I remember one time, when I was probably 12 or 13, my daddy said we s

CO LIVING and people's perspectives!!

Image
Feeling:  Energetic and hungry Time: 9:21a.m. Today’s post is giving me goosebumps, because I’m so excited!!! It’s a featured post!!!   In this age, CO LIVING  doesn’t seem to be a new thing, it’s like everybody is into  it. It’s like a norm. I really didn’t want this post to seem subjective, so I asked not one, but many people this question, ' what do you think of co living. Like a guy and a girl are dating, but they live together . What’s your take on it, and why do you think they do it?' So, let’s hear from teens, singles (by singles, I don’t mean not in a relationship) and married peeps what they have to say concerning this issue. *rubs hands dramatically. Single ladies first. Ore  “It’s wrong. What’s wrong is wrong. I feel like a girl might lose her dignity and value that way. ” Fifi : Okay, what if they have plans to get married? After all, they’ll still live together when they get married. They might as well just start it yeah? Ore: It is still

Arms wide open; embracing visitors

Image
Feeling: Really sleepy  Time: 12:12a.m One thing that makes me really uncomfortable is visiting people. It's a huge chore for me, I'd rather stay in my room all day with my phone and note pads, a book to read and loads of junk. I could be indoors for a whole week. I dunno if this is an entirely bad thing, but I really love my space which makes it hard for me to be the best host. This one, I know is not really cool. I remember when I was at home, and my parents told us we were going to have  a guest. I was the only one that had a problem with it. We had to move to the boys' room temporarily (Dang!)  I'd do extra and earlier cooking (noo) I would not have mom to myself anymore (maddening). I probably just don't like all the hustle and bustle that comes along with having a guest. Being kind doesn't necessarily mean giving people physical stuff, giving people your time could be a form of kindness. In this area, I could be  very selfish, especially when I do

Amazing uses of coconut oil.

Image
Feeling: Really Happy Time: 3:57 p.m So everyone is crazy about coconut oil. They've seen the wonders it does to the skin, hair and body ( ingestion wise.) I really love coconut oil, cause of the things i know can be done with it. Unfortunately, we ave so many fake products. I saw one yesterday, looked like antiseptic. However, there are really original ones. You'll know from the heavenly smell. So, I checked the Internet to get benefits of coconut oil, which I'll really like to share with you. So, let's dive right in babies!!!! Benefits of coconut oil. * FASTER growth!! Okay, I  really don't know how true this cos my hair is already full, but other people have testified to the validity of this point. * You see, the hair needs fat, but not just any kind of fat. HEALTHY FAT, and trust me, it gives your hair fat. * It prevents SPLIT ENDS. This isn't a lie. For a while now (a really long while) I haven't been using coconut oil, and to my shock

#NYSCDiaries plus important note to All PCMs

Feeling : Quite Unhappy Time: 7:08 a.m Hullo, how've you all been? Me? I've been okay too. I know you want to know why I'm feeling unhappy. Well, it's because I've not been able to write much. I was posted to Tsaragi in Kwara, and for like four days there was no light. Man!! I wasn't cool with it, but it's been fixed, I hope I'll be able to write more. So, the last time I think I told you that I was going to tell you guys about my activities on camp and general living (I'm not too sure, okay, just confirmed from the blogger app which became useful for once.) So, I think I wrote out my schedule here the last time. That's what we were supposed to be doing all the time, (Yaaay!!! there's light!!) but Ore and I had a different schedule. We never had breakfast. It was quite disgusting to us. Bread ( we tasted it once, it was like cardboard) and hot water (this was supposed to be hot chocolate bahahahaha) or some awful looking porridge. Ins

#NYSCdiaries. Boys.

Feeling: Relaxed Time: 5:53 a.m Welcome back to this series, #NYSCdiaries, I figured that if I go on the way I started, writing as each day went, I'll have a book. So, I have decided to break the experience into different parts, however, I left you hanging the last time. ... The sound of the beagle. One sound I eally don't want to hear again in this life and the next to come. This was our routine: 4:30 a.m, the beagle sounded for us to get ready for the day. 5:00 the beagle would be blown for our morning meditation, this lasted for 1hr30mins on the camp ground, after which we would have a lecture. 7:30 a.m, we'd leave the "parade ground" retire to our rooms. 8 a.m to 9 a.m was for breakfast . I always had time to sleep before the horrible beagle sounded again 9 a.m to 1:30 p.m was for lectures I never paid attention to. 1;30 p.m to 3:30 was usually lunch, Ore and I didn't really eat a lot of whatever they served us, we ate dinner a lot cause

Natural hair care. My secrets.

Image
Feeling: Coffeeish Time : 1:26 p.m Hulloo, welcome back to Fifi's diary. Today, I'm gonna talk about natural hair care (the basic things I know) in honour of my beautiful curls which are like a year and some weeks old. Just so you know , I took this myself .  On a norms, I'm not overly concerned about length (both hair length and time I started this whole natural thingy) and all, in fact, it was during the camp period that I actually took full note of this. My hair was more popular than me. Everywhere I went people would be like "is that your hair or a wig?" Boys crushed on my hair, girls wished they had my hair (I dunno why). If we (my friends and I) actually decided to start a business based on how many people asked to touch my hair, I'd be a billionaire.  Another question people ask me is "what did you do to your hair, tell me, what are the things you used?"  and then, I always reply saying "nothing, really. I just use

Why I went AWOL #NYSCdiaries

Feeling: Fresh Time: 5:09pm Wow! I really missed writing on this blog. I don't think you know how much. The thing is I travelled and there was no way I could take my laptop with me, and I really do not like typing long stuff on my phone. Chill a bit.I know you're wondering where I travelled to, I'll definitely tell you, BUT FIRST,let me tell you, it wasn't a fancy trip at all, it was strenuous and torturous. This was taken on my way to Yikpata, see me looking fresh. In Nigeria, after obtaining your bachelors degree, it is compulsory for you to serve the nation for a year through a scheme called NYSC (National Youth Service Corps), once you've done this, you can work fully. Truth is, I've always wanted to be a corp member, to wear the Khaki and the hat, and I'm finally doing that. However, no one told me that, I had to go through three weeks of hell to wear that. The uniform I always wanted to wear. So, I'll be writing a series here #NY

Nigerian Weddings vs My 'dream' wedding

Image
Feeling: Stressed. Time: 9:39pm Let me dive right in, cause this battery won't last too long. Today I want talk about something that so many people think about. WEDDINGS . @lumimorg.   Weddings are a big deal in every part of the world, but Nigeria takes it to another level. They even say that "Saturdays are for owambes" Oh my word!!! You need to see the way it is done. People "spray" money like insecticide, (if you've seen the wedding party, a Nigerian movie, you'll understand) people dance like no one's watching (and everyone is watching!!!) , just about anything is incorporated into that reception program. @GeorgeOkoroweddings   In fact, people want their pictures to make it to popular wedding pages like @bellanaijaweddings, @Nigerianweddings @weddingdigestnaija. Lol yeah I check out those pages to see cute couples while I "awwwn" and "ooh". They mostly have two weddings. one's the traditional wedding(the

A beautiful rebirth! (of Fifi's diary)

Sometimes, it is highly essential to take a long break, to figure out a plan, and to remind yourself of certain things. That's what happened here. This is the second time this has happened on this blog. I somehow lost zeal and drive. I was dangerously close to ending it all but God prevailed. This long break has brought about a rebirth, and I'm excited about it. Source: Pinterest Obviously you've seen major changes like : The title of the blog. In case you didn't know, this blog was formerly Fifi's diary:Where I leave you bored. The theme: Oh my Gosh!! I love love looove this new theme. It has one of my favorite colors as its major color without being babyish. The fonts too, in fact everything about it. I'll keep working on it to make it better. The URL: The former URL was sooo long . It's now short and easy to remember fifistalks.blogspot.com These are the new major changes. Now, this blog is going to have a lifestyle vibe.It won't be d

My battle with greed.

Heyerr , welcome to Fifi's diary. It's been so long. I almost didn't write this , cause I'm not feeling too good. But the devil is a LIAR tehehe . Last  week I wanted to write this , but I had to go make my hair. Let's dive right in 👇 If you're in Nigeria , you must have been hearing about different Pontiac schemes Yeah?  Oh my!  It all started last year, fresh from Uganda , went to my former school (UNI)  and my friend told me about MMM, a Ponzi scheme . Everyone was doing it. She told me about how the thing triples your money and blah blah. I'm not one to do all those things, but dang I was so broke , the battle was strong  lol. My brother asked if I heard about it. I told him I wasn't interested . Oh I was, but the risk and fears won't let me do it freely.  Also when I was young there was this story I read about the money doubler or something like that, the guy doubled people's money and eventually it was all fake. To be honest with

A Box of Faith.

Hey guys, welcome to Fifi's diary. Hope you're having an amazing weekend. Quick reminder: God loves you more than you'll ever know. This is not the first time  this is happening, but i really do not have much to say. Okay, I have a suggestion. One that might encourage you. You see, many times we pray, and sometimes we think God turns deaf when we talk to him. God never turns a deaf ears to your prayers, I mean, he loves you. The thing is many times we aren't reflective people. we need to be able to reflect not only on God, but our lives as well, if we do this, we'll see that God actually hears you, and answers your prayers, maybe just not the way you expect him to, but he's wise. Whenever you pray or make any request to God, I suggest you write it down, and eventually when God answers, you'll mark it as answered. This is just to encourage you when you feel God doesn't care or listen to you. I have a box where I write out prayers, and  I mark those th

FEATURED STORY : I USED TO RUN AWAY FROM HUGS

Image
Hi guys, today we'll be having a feature. Yup!! Cool huh? So this isn't me telling a story. It's a friend/ reader telling us an amazing story of how he was " hugophobic " (scared of hugging)   I created the word. So let's dive right in!  "I used to run away from hugs. I have a sister who  attended girls only, so I learnt most of ladies tricks from her Most of females curvings, cause she's a church girl. Me, I now attended boys only. Along the way sha, I got irritated with how my mates were objectifying girls like they would come to class to brag about their escapades. Quite disgusting to me...I sha found myself hating girls all together, I was always fighting with my sis. My primary school female friends were cut off. To shake girls alone, was a problem. It all changed when I finished sec school met a couple of wonderful visionary girls who were different from the ones my mates were talking about. So I had to renegotiate my decision, I was
